Representation Watch recognises the importance of environmental responsibility and the role organisations play in reducing their impact on the planet. While our work is primarily digital and research-based, we are committed to operating in a way that is mindful, proportionate, and sustainable.
Our approach
We aim to:
- Minimise environmental impact where reasonably possible
- Make responsible choices in how our work is produced and distributed
- Review practices periodically to identify improvements
We understand sustainability as an ongoing process rather than a fixed standard.
Digital-first operations
Representation Watch operates primarily online. This reduces the need for physical materials, travel, and printed output.
Where possible, we:
- Prioritise digital publishing over print
- Limit unnecessary file duplication and storage
- Use efficient hosting and content practices
- Avoid excessive use of data-heavy media where it does not serve editorial purpose
Procurement and partnerships
When working with suppliers or partners, we aim to:
- Choose services with clear sustainability commitments where practical
- Avoid unnecessary physical production
- Reduce waste associated with events, campaigns, or promotional activity
We recognise that as a small organisation, our influence is limited, but we value transparency and intention in decision-making.
Travel and events
Where engagement or collaboration is required:
- Remote communication is preferred when feasible
- Travel is minimised where it does not materially affect outcomes
- Environmental impact is considered alongside cost and accessibility
Continuous review
We are committed to reviewing our environmental practices periodically and making improvements where possible. This includes reassessing digital infrastructure, workflows, and operational choices as technology and standards evolve.
Accountability
Environmental responsibility is part of our broader commitment to social accountability. We welcome feedback and suggestions on how we can reduce our impact further.
