Representation Watch is committed to making representationwatch.org accessible to as many people as possible. We believe access to information, analysis, and public discourse should not be limited by ability, technology, or circumstance.
We aim to ensure our website is usable for people with a wide range of abilities, including those who rely on assistive technologies.
Our approach to accessibility
We work toward accessibility by:
- Using clear, readable language wherever possible
- Structuring content with headings and logical page layouts
- Ensuring reasonable colour contrast for text and backgrounds
- Supporting keyboard navigation for core site functions
- Using descriptive links and meaningful page titles
- Avoiding unnecessary motion or flashing elements
Where images are used for editorial or illustrative purposes, we aim to include appropriate alternative text unless the image is purely decorative.
Standards and guidelines
Representation Watch aims to align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, where reasonably possible. These guidelines are widely recognised as the standard for accessible web content.
As an independent organisation, some legacy theme or plugin elements may not yet fully meet all accessibility criteria. We view accessibility as an ongoing process, not a one-time task.
Assistive technologies
Our site is designed to be compatible with commonly used assistive technologies, including:
- Screen readers
- Keyboard-only navigation
- Browser zoom and text resizing tools
If you experience difficulty using the site with assistive technology, we want to know.
Known limitations
We acknowledge that some parts of the site may not yet be fully accessible. This may include:
- Third-party embedded content (such as social media embeds)
- Older articles or media published before accessibility reviews were implemented
- Theme-controlled elements that limit fine-grained accessibility adjustments
We prioritise improvements where barriers are identified.
Feedback and contact
If you encounter an accessibility issue, or if there is something we can do to improve your experience, please contact us. We welcome feedback and take accessibility concerns seriously.
accessibility@representationwatch.org
When contacting us, it helps to include:
- The page or feature you were using
- The nature of the problem
- The device, browser, or assistive technology involved (if relevant)
We will make reasonable efforts to respond and address issues promptly.
Ongoing commitment
Representation Watch is committed to improving accessibility as part of our broader mission to challenge exclusion and promote accountability in media. Accessibility is not separate from representation. It is part of it.
We will continue to review our site, update practices where possible, and respond to feedback from our audience.
